Riveting Money Making Thoughts
| There are 2.5 million rivets on the Eiffel Tower in France and each rivet looks pretty much like any other. So: How can you tell one from another? Only if it's say, the highest rivet or perhaps if one has been painted gold and is therefore known as the golden rivet. So what's this got to do with money making and blogging? Not a lot, but it's just something that got me thinking a while back. The rivets could be blogs and the 2.5 million could represent the millions of blogs on the Internet. So it's the same question: How can you tell one from another? Especially of you are an Internet search engine. Okay I know that it's supposedly about links. If you go to Wilkepedia there's a whole formula for the Google algorithm, and very complicated it is too. But perhaps there's really something also a little simpler. If you put the word money into a Google search there are 690,000,000 million pages to consider. But if you enter mikes money there are only 977,000 entries and, for me, the amazing thing is that this blog is then in the top position! So by often associating money with mike this has become that golden rivet in the Eiffel Tower. As is money making mission. If again you were to search myLot money then again this blog is in the number one position out of 631,000. Of course, if that search is just the word money, this blog is nowhere to be seen. I'm sure you can see where I'm now heading. It's all about keywords and associating them with another word i.e. as in the case of mike or myLot with money. I'm not going to expand on this here and now but perhaps, along with getting those inbound links, it might be an idea for us to think about associating different words with a main keyword or keywords in our posts. Both links and keywords work hand in hand. Most people looking to earn money online will never type mikes money. They will go directly to money. So in order to increase your rank on google, you must develop a wide variety of keywords and work on linking to sites with a PR greater than 3. Linking to sites with PR less than yours will affect your blog's ranking on google.
You can check a list of directories with a PR greater than 5 at m blog.

yan: I agree that not many people will enter 'mikes money' into a search (though funnily enough some do!), that isn't however the point of the post. I agree entirely with what you say about needing '... a variety of keywords and work on linking to sites with a PR greater than 3'. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Gotta agree, seeing my my referrals from google are all double words, like "jcm art", "npc art", "rpg+add any game clan name", but if I take the words vampire, rpg, etc by themselves, Im shoved to anything from page 2 to page 30.
Howver I have found that by keeping my blog bilingual the brasilian google is kinder to me in search rankings, maybe its the lack of competition?
BTW, Im wondering what do you think of "translate this blog" buttons?

jcm: Thanks for that. Yes my search engine referrals are mostly at least two words.
The bilingual aspect. I rarely use a 'translate this' button. When I have it hasn't always been a good translation which makes me move on to see if I can find the answer in English.
