Targets Are The Route To Money
| Yesterday in my Money Making Weekly Report I mentioned that I had achieved one of my blogging targets for this year. It got me thinking as to how important it is to set targets or objectives, as they are sometimes called. Targets are like a road map directing us to where we want to be in x months, x years or whatever period we choose. Without knowing where we are headed how can we know how far we have travelled? It's as I wrote in How To Become Wealthy: 'We wouldn’t go to a railway station and ask for a ticket, without knowing where it was we actually we wanted to go.' It's the same with life and business. Targets keep us motivated. It's so easy to sit back, and say everything is okay and that we are doing alright, if we have nothing to compare it with. But if we realise we are just a short way from achieving something we'll try harder to get there. We'll stay on track. We'll be self motivated. If you are working for yourself, you'll know that it's very easy to slack off. There are lots of excuses and temptations. When I first went self employed and gave up 'proper' jobs I lived on my savings for the first year. What I earned in that year was what I spent in the following year and I continued this discipline year after year. Believe me, if you know your next years income isn't looking too hot you soon get off your backside and do something about achieving those targets! Okay, about those targets. All the manuals and experts will tell you they have to be realistic and time bounded. Example: I will make $xxx before March 2007. I'm quite into the power of the mind and subconscious so can understand why targets have to be realistic. If we go over the top and say something like: "I'm going to be a dollar millionaire by March 2007," the old subconscious will be saying something like, "Get out of it, you've got to be kidding." Especially if we haven't two cents or two pennies to our name at the moment. We won't be helped along the way because deep inside we'll know we haven't got a cat in hells chance of achieving that. This doesn't mean that we can't become a millionaire. The initial targets just have to be smaller until our subconscious believes that we can achieve what we set out to do. I also think that when we set out to do something, make targets and so on we should be flexible. Why say, for example: "I want to make an extra $10000 (or whatever) from blogging." Why not simply say instead, "I want to make an extra $10000." This immediately opens up more possibilities. The world is awash with opportunities once we start looking, but if we are only looking in one direction we might miss the more obvious, easier route. Life is really quite simple. It's a game. Whatever we give out we get back. I feel, therefore, if we have those targets and objectives clearly defined we might just get there - and the journey will be fun and enjoyable because we'll know we are heading somewhere special. Very good! It's very important to be focused when you want to achieve something! I'll link to this blog straightaway, it has in just a day become a good resource.
Thanks!
I sort of put that blog to keep track of stuff, still neck deep in drawing that comic

Another side note, some RPG game cmmunity tooknotice, and Ive gotten 2 comissions to draw characters for their games, $5 each... any future in this?
Good advice.
Here for C&C Monday. Haver a good week.
Expecting help from others is like expecting the sky to rain money. Human is selfish. I agree with you, know where you want to go, and you'll get there ....maybe not on a jetplane .. crawl if you must ..
lindsey: Thank you and for the link, much appreciated. Glad you could find something of use here.
jcm: I would think that drawing a comic is a very big commitment, and very time consuming.
Commissions for drawings - that sounds okay. I guess though you've got to tell 'everyone' that you'll do this.
cybercelt: Thanks for the visit.
may leng: Not all people are selfish, there are lots of helpful people about. Enjoy your journey, hape it's by jet plane!
Mike.
