Money Making With Zlio
| In my search for some decent money making ideas I've come across Zlio and I've spent the last hour messing about with it - or perhaps it was even longer. Okay, so what is it? I'll give you the official description from Zlio: 'With Zlio, you can open your own oline shop in 5 minutes. You don't even need to have your own products. Zlio lets you choose from an extensive catalogue of thousands of products and allows you to design your ZlioShop quickly and easily! Your ZlioShop can provide: Your favorite products. Items from your wishlist. Products within the theme of your choice. Products aimed towards a specific group of people (new moms, video games fans, rap music lovers, etc) You can then offer your ZlioShop's services to your friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, on your blog, via messenger, on online forums, just like a professional vendor! Shortly after you've set up shop, your site will automatically be referenced among the main search engines and will attract visitors with no efforts on your part! Thanks to Zlio, anyone can run their own store without ever having to worry about deliveries or customer service! Join the Zlio revolution!' My initial thoughts: Firstly it'll take a lot longer than 5 minutes to set up your store properly. In five minutes all you do is the basic store - but without any products. Puting on the products takes an age and quite frankly I made a right pig's ear of it. It was my own fault as I didn't really know what I wanted to sell. There are many categories and lots of products to choose from. It's best to decide on a theme, relative to your blog, and stick with this. I didn't, unfortunately, so I'll have to start all over again when I've got some spare time. You can see my feeble attempt here: Mission Shop. Yes, I know it's not too impressive but there are other formats to choose and I reckon it's possible to make up a decent looking website - if you have the time. All products have a different commission rate, as they are from various suppliers. Commissions are paid to members via PayPal. There is also commission payable (10% and 5% over a further 2 levels) for referring other people into the program. At the present time products are aimed at the USA market, though UK and Canada will be following soon. All I can really say is that from first apprearances it looks promising providing: (a) You make a decent job of your Zlio store regarding products, layout etc. To me it looks better than the Amazon aStore. (b) You can get vistors to the store - same old problem to overcome. (c) You can refer others to Zlio. (d) You have visitors to your blog from the USA. I'll leave it there for the present time. Hopefully, I'll be able to add something more substantial in the future. If anyone has experience with Zlio your opinion is welcome. Good luck, Mike. Keeping with the theme here, my name is Michael. My dad has the same name and always went by Mike, so I choose Michael.
There are other services that do what Zlio does. Even for beginners I think running a stor of other peoples stuff is not the right way to start. Better to have your own stuff to sell.
What are your thoughts on selling your own stuff over other peoples stuff for commission?

michael (1): I think it's a long haul business. Get the visitors first and the money will follow.
michael (2): Agreed that selling your own stuff is best. It's all profit plus you are fully in control. The bloggers who have made serious money all seem to have some form of product - it's where the 'real' money is.
statman: I can't vouch for Zlio but it looks okay on initial findings.

It helps to be able to write some CSS code. A good approach to running a Zlio store is to write some custom CSS that brands the store identical to your site, so you can then tightly integrate the store as a part of your site.
I started a zlio web store the other month called The Hot Sauce Collector -- my thesis on zlio is that through a stringent focus on a particular product niche you can drive a product coverage advantage over larger sites that have to be broader in nature. I agree with Tom's comments that you need to customize your CSS -- I've been trying to push the limits on how far the customization can go, and recently generated my first revenues, which is encouraging to say the least.

but I am having problems bringing people to the site. I did post the store on my blog.. besides that.. is there anything else I can do? and do people really buy things that you are not selling physically? Just wanted to know your thoughts.
I opened 2 stores for my girlfriend. She calls it Red's emporium and we sell many types of products from computers to telephones with food in between. Getting customers appears the biggest obstacle to overcome. the store address http://redsemporium.zlio.com and http://redsemporium2.zlio.com in about a month we have a commission of $1.88 based on sales of $47.
I have seen so many business hustlers on the net and until I saw Zlio I had dismissed everyone as charlatans. Even though we haven't sold a lot of zlio at least we're selling tangible products instead of metacrap that most businessmen sell with the mlm angle also.

We have sold more products from zazzle because zazzle has a community product matrix where people can go in and see the products in each category and search on them. zlio.com needs this.
As for getting customers to the site at zlio, I get about 40 browsers per day on average bu they only browse. Some of them come from search engines and some come frommessages I send to the.
Many people browse but few people buy.

I think that ZLIO is quite an easy way to earn some money on the net! At least easier than most of the stuff i've seen so far!!
ZLIO which gives you the opportunity to create very easily your own customized shop on the Web, you can choose your topic and your items among thousands (computers, clothes, music, CD,DVD,...)
Everytime you sell a product, you earn a commission (from 2% to 15%). You also earn money when people click on the products!!
The good thing is that you can add a widget on your blog showing some products you are selling which is also an easy way to attract traffic on your shop!
You can also display google ads on your shop which is an extra way to earn money!!

The only drawback I've found with Zlio is the fact that it encourages referral spam. Mr Djibs is quite active posting his referral link on nearly every blog mentioning Zlio. I would encourage everyone interested to really think hard about a niche market they can fill. For example, I've gone with philadelphiaeagles.zliostore.com because I can promote it locally in the 'real' world, and it fills a real need for that people don't have to look through 5,000 pages of random NFL junk just to find items featuring their favorite team.

Ditto. Zlio sucks.
Granted it looks pretty fast and hands you some good SEO tools on a plate but boy is it difficult to get indexed! There are so many people making the same sites, selling the same stuff with the same reviews and descriptions that Google is just flat out refusing to index replicate info and depending on what products you want to sell it can be next to impossible to make your site unique and any attempts will eat up your days and weeks!

google refuses to index the toy store pages and dispite making my shoe store BEFORE Google changed its crawling/indexing rules and having almost 200 pages indexed I still can't make a sale even using ADwords!!
My advice if you must...
Think very carefully about a specific niche and make sure they have some good products to suit in the catalogue.
Keep it small.
Use unique CSS if you can and think carefully about the placement of keywords/meta tags etc. to give yourself a fighting chance at getting indexed this side of next christmas!
