Make Money With Free Blogs: New Advice
| It's always easy and satisfying to write positive things about how my blogs are going. Today, however, I feel I have made a mistake, an error of judgement. From the very start of my Mike's Money Making Mission my whole idea was to make money using only free blogs and without any capital outlay. This was what I set out to do and have achieved this to my own satisfaction. If I was starting out now, with what I have learnt, my mission would be slightly different. I would now set out to make money, still with free blogs but by using minimal capital. What I would do is immediately purchase a .com address. This can cost as little as $10 but I now feel it is essential. It's still very little money to 'gamble' or 'invest'. Why do I say this? Quite simply because someone else has now bought mikesmoneymakingmission.com and will no doubt benefit from my hard work. But it's my own fault sticking to the blogspot URL. I stayed with the blogspot address with very good motives. I wanted to show that anyone can make money with free blogs even if they are flat broke. In sticking to my principles, and to my exact mission, I probably haven't done myself any long term favours. So I say again. If you are starting a blog get yourself a .com address before someone else grabs it. If you are successful you can always sell this if you get fed up blogging. I have bought one .com address and that was for my adult celebrity blog CelebTease.com (over 18's only). I'm getting over 2000 visits per day on this and over 5000 page visits so it equates to quite a profitable blog. ![]() As well as stopping others cashing in your work a .com URL also definitely looks and sounds more professional. It is more likely to impress advertisers and also review purchasers. But, whatever you do, it is possible to make money with free blogs - proven! Good luck, Mike. Free Money Making Website. Sorry you hear someone is cashing on your good name.
Hopefully they won't get far though. I expect most of your readers come to your blog looking for particular content, rather than the name of the blog. With luck the other party will go bust and you can then snap up the domain name!
I wish I had read this before I started my journey into blogging as I did the same and by the time I had got my .com site I had to settle for 2nd best choice.
Your advice is great. Now I have to see how I can get 2000 visitors to my site each day. Wow that's quite impressive. I wonder if I can have an adult theme as well as trying to make money without money.
If you get a chance maybe you could take a look at my site at How To Make Money Without Money Blog
Thanks for the inspiration.
Very valuable advice, Mike. I have only recently started thinking seriously about milking the feee Blogspot cow. Your sucess and tta of a number of others doing similar work is impressive.
But as this object lesson points out, one can be cheap to the point that it eventually costs money.
I really can't think of a single idea worth doing that would not justify buying the .com name in advance. If the idea doesn't pan out in a year, you will have lost less than $9 USD, and if the idea does take off ... how tiny that $9 will seem in retrospect.
Many readers here will be familiar with Darren Rowse's ProBlogger. When Darren started his rise to the 'A-list' the .com extension was not available so he built a huge brand and traffic stream upon the .net version.
Making a long story short I was one of the bidders in an auction when the .com version finally became avilable.
Darren himself eventually won. the .com version now just redirects to the original domain
What would I have done had I been the successful bidder? By no means would I even consider myself as a blogger with anywhere near Darren's talent. I wouldn't even try. But if I owned that domain can anyone guess how many visits and ad clicks I would get just from type in traffic alone?
Darren spent more than $4,000 USD (which is where I dropped out) to protect his brand ... and I think he was smart to do so.
How much simpler it would be to spend $9 or so at the git-go?
That sucks Mike. And I can just imagine you still kicking yourself right now.
But there again, I found you from one of your posts, rather than the name of your blog and I'm sure most search engine visitors do too.
So all you can do is keep on producing good targetted posts as you are at the moment...and hope the other guy doesn't get loads of backlinks to his site...
Seriously though, it's very good advice to get the dot com domain when you can for whatever niche you are aiming for. Even if you cannot develop it right then, you can always stick up a landing page until you get around to it.
Dear Mike,
I myself using the free blogger platform for the last 3 years. I feel, it’s really a good idea to have our blogs hosted in our own domains.
But its equally important to struck to a relevant topic and posting contextual articles in a regular basis, while we blog.
I think you deserve the full credit for sticking to your topic and generating regular visitors thereby.. I love to bookmark your blog.
I think I have lots to learn from you-
Regards-

teatree: Thanks for your kind words.
tim: It's definitely worth the minimal outlay for a .com - before someone else gets it.
dave: I'd heard that about Darren before. When he started the .com version of his address was already in use.
And, of course $9 or $10 is nothing to pay for a URL. I guess when I started blogging I was naive in this direction. That's life though - a lesson.
zania: That's true. If I ever get a feeling for any .com address I know that I'll now buy it - and park it if neccessary. I was thinking of building a small portfolio of URL's.
purna: Thanks.
Thanks for the comments,
Mike.
Great advice Mike, I actually am just starting my internet journey and decided to buy the domain name which goes with my blogger account. Thank god it wasn't taken, and i am the new proud owner :)
